Edmonton Oilers Recall Goaltender Calvin Pickard from AHL on Emergency Basis The Edmonton Oilers have recalled goaltender Calvin Pickard from their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, on an emergency basis, the team announced Friday morning. The move comes as the Oilers prepare to begin their Stanley Cup Playoff campaign against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Per the NHL’s playoff roster regulations, teams are required to carry three goaltenders throughout the postseason, even if all are healthy. While Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram remain the Oilers’ primary goaltending options and have suffered no injuries, the league mandates that clubs maintain an NHL-experienced goalie as their third-string option for playoff eligibility. Pickard, 34, had spent the majority of the 2025-26 season in the AHL after being placed on waivers in early February and subsequently assigned to the Bakersfield Condors. During his time with Edmonton this season, he appeared in 16 NHL games, posting a 5-6-2 record with a 3.68 goals-against average and a .871 save percentage. His most recent appearance at the NHL level came in an 8-5 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on January 8. In the AHL, Pickard has compiled a 4-3-1 record with the Condors, accompanied by a 3.26 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage. His recall marks the first of several potential “Black Aces” — players on standby for playoff call-ups — to be summoned from the Condors’ roster. The Oilers open their best-of-seven first-round series against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night at Rogers Place. With Pickard now available as the team’s third goaltender, Edmonton satisfies the NHL’s playoff roster requirement while maintaining flexibility for potential in-series adjustments.
