Ehammer begins his decathlon season in victorious form in Brescia Swiss star Simon Ehammer launched his outdoor decathlon campaign with a commanding performance at the 39th Multistars Combined Events Meeting in Brescia, Italy. The world indoor heptathlon record holder delivered a strong start to his 2026 season, reaffirming his status as one of the sport’s premier combined events athletes ahead of key summer competitions. Ehammer’s victory in Brescia came less than five weeks after he shattered the world indoor heptathlon record with a score of 6,670 points at the World Championships in Toruń, Poland. That mark surpassed the previous standard set by Ashton Eaton in 2012 by 25 points, cementing Ehammer’s place in athletics history as only the second Swiss athlete to hold a world indoor record, alongside shot put legend Werner Günthör. At the Multistars event—part of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour at Silver level—Ehammer competed in the full decathlon over two days (April 25–26) at the Gabre Gabric stadium. His performance signaled early-season readiness as he prepares for higher-profile challenges, including the prestigious Hypo-Meeting in Götzis, Austria, scheduled for May 30–31, where he aims to deliver another world-class result. The Brescia meeting featured a deep international field, with athletes from 17 nations across Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Among the men’s decathlon entrants were Brazil’s José Fernando Ferreira, a two-time South American champion and Pan American Games silver medalist, along with rising Swiss talents Andrin Huber—European U23 champion in 2025—and Leon Krummenacher, who earned European U20 bronze in 2024. Italy was represented by Lorenzo Naidon, even as the women’s heptathlon was headlined by Great Britain’s Niamh Emerson, a world U20 champion returning from injury. Ehammer’s resume already includes major accolades: world indoor heptathlon titles in 2024 and 2026, a silver medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, and European indoor silver in 2025. Outdoors, he earned bronze in the long jump at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, silver in the decathlon at the 2022 European Championships in Munich, and long jump bronze at the 2024 European Championships in Rome. He too holds two Diamond League titles in the long jump, a Swiss decathlon record of 8,575 points set in Götzis in 2025, and a national long jump record of 8.45 meters. His return to Brescia carried added significance after finishing second behind Lewis Church in the 2025 edition, a result affected by a no-mark in the long jump—his strongest discipline. This year’s outing served as both a confidence-builder and a benchmark, offering early feedback on his form while helping him chase the European Championships qualifying standard of 8,300 points in the decathlon. With free admission and a full live stream available on YouTube via the Spot&Sport channel, the Multistars meeting continues to serve as a vital early-season platform for combined events athletes. For Ehammer, the victory in Brescia marks not just a successful season opener, but a clear statement of intent for the months ahead.
