EHF Euro 2024 Reaches Record-Breaking Cumulative Audience of 53.8 million

The men’s EHF Euro 2024, co-hosted by Denmark, Sweden, and Norway between january 15 and February 1, achieved a record cumulative television and digital audience of 53.8 million viewers, according to the European Handball Federation (EHF). This represents a significant increase from the previous tournament in 2022.

The impressive viewership was driven by extensive free-to-air coverage across Europe. Matches were broadcast by major broadcasters including Viaplay (Sweden, Norway, Finland), TV2 Denmark, ORF (Austria), ARD & ZDF (Germany), France Télévisions/BeIN (France), TVE (Spain), RTP (Portugal), Eurosport/ TVP (Poland), Arena Sport (Balkans), SRG (Switzerland), and RÚV (Iceland). Fans worldwide also had access to live coverage through EHFTV.com.

“These figures are absolutely impressive and underline the growing appeal of our sport,” said Martin Hausleitner, EHF secretary general. “An EHF Euro that is followed by millions is the perfect base to foster further growth and growth of handball in Europe.”

Jens Mennigmann, co-head of media at Infront, the EHF’s marketing partner, highlighted the success of the distribution strategy. “These audiences underline the enduring strength of handball on broadcast. Working with the EHF and leading broadcasters across europe, our focus was on building a distribution model that delivers both scale and relevance. These results speak for themselves.”

The record viewership demonstrates the continued popularity and growing reach of handball within Europe and globally.
