86% of Palestinian children detained in west bank by the army suffered beatings at the hands of the Israeli military, 69% assure that they were stripped naked and 42% suffered injuries at the time of arrest, such as gunshot wounds and fractures bony.

This is confirmed by an investigation Save the Children published this Monday in coincidence with the presentation before the UN Human Rights Council new evidence on the detention of Palestinian children by Frances Albanian, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. According to her estimates, every year there are between 500 and 1,000 boys and girls held in Israeli military detention centers.

Together with one of its partner organizations on the ground, Save the Children interviewed 228 minors (221 boys and 7 girls) who had spent between one and 18 months in detention.

The NGO affirms that most of them were beaten, handcuffed and blindfolded during their detention. They also state that they were interrogated in unknown places without the presence of their father, mother or legal guardian, and they were often deprived of food, water and sleep or access to legal assistance.

The main alleged offense behind these arrests is stone throwing, which can carry a 20-year prison sentence for Palestinian boys and girls.
