The girls whose father threw them into the Ebro river in Logroño last Saturday after slitting their mother’s throat in the family home were confused when National Police agents pulled them out of the river. After the logical shock of being aware of their father’s intentions and the reluctance to tell what had happened to them, the two minors were clear. “Dad tried to drown us in the river.” This phrase was the only one they uttered once on the shore, according to sources of the investigation.
They told what had happened to them with their father still in the water. When he was rescued, the man backed up the girls’ testimony. He acknowledged that he had thrown them into the flow from the fourth bridge in Logroño and that he intended to end their lives. “I have thrown them into the river to drown them,” he said according to the same sources. It was his first confession. The second, immediately after, was of the same crudeness: “I have killed my wife at home.”
The youngest son was saved from his father’s plans by managing to escape moments before his sisters fell into the Ebro pushed by their father. The confessed murderer has been detained since Saturday and will go to court in the course of the next few hours. The investigators highlight the “coldness” with which he has dealt with both the crime of his wife and the intentions he had with her three children. He has told everything step by step without forgetting any detail and without apparent remorse, just as the same sources reveal.
On Saturday morning, the man, 44 years old and of Syrian origin, slit the throat of his wife, 34 and of the same nationality, and mother of the three children in the kitchen of his house, an apartment located near the center from Logrono. The minors were not there because they had been taken to the Logroño municipal library early in the morning to carry out some activities.
Once the sexist crime was completed, the confessed perpetrator went down to his neighbor’s house and told him with disturbing tranquility -according to the same police sources consulted by this newspaper- that he had just murdered his wife. Afterwards, he left the building and went to the library to get his children. He took them out and took them to the fourth bridge of Logroño to rush into the water with them. However, the smallest of the three minors managed to escape and ran down the street. His screams and crying alerted the neighbors.
