EKU Women’s Tennis Continues Winning Ways with Dominant Home Performances
The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team is on a roll, extending their winning streak to three matches after a strong weekend at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The Colonels secured impressive victories over UNC Greensboro (4-1) and Cumberlands (Ky.) (4-2), showcasing their resilience and depth.
EKU’s dominant performance began in day one’s clash against UNC Greensboro. The Colonels showcased their fighting spirit in a tight doubles point, ultimately securing the decisive win thanks to a tiebreaker victory on court No. 2 by the duo of Cote and Ipek. This momentum carried over into singles, where standout performances from Sasha Parkhomenko and Zhansaya Bakytzhan sealed the deal. In a powerful finish, Marilou Cote clinched the victory with a commanding straight-sets triumph.
The Colonels carried their winning momentum into the second match against Cumberlands. Winning the doubles point convincingly with 6-0 and 6-1 victories, EKU built a commanding lead. Cote and Anastasiia Cherniakova delivered solid singles performances, further solidifying the Colonels’ dominance. While Cumberlands fought back with wins on courts No. 1 and 3, Izem Elif Olcer clinched the match for EKU with a decisive victory on court No. 5.
"The team showed great composure and determination today," said a team spokesperson. "Winning both matches at home is a testament to their hard work and preparation."
The Colonels’ recent success sets the stage for an exciting rest of the season. EKU’s next challenge is a unique doubleheader on Jan. 24th. They will first face Lindsey Wilson College at home at 9 a.m. followed by a road match against Marshall University at 4 p.m.
