Elon Musk Releases Seven-Minute AI Odyssey Episode

“Odyssey with Grok Imagine,” Elon Musk wrote on X on October 23, 2026, sharing a newly released, seven-minute video produced through artificial intelligence. The release marks a partial fulfillment of a promise Musk made in July 2026 to create a historically accurate, full-length feature version of Homer’s ancient Greek epic using the Grok Imagine AI tool by the end of 2026.

The 4K video depicts a cinematic interpretation of the poem, featuring a bearded protagonist in a dark cloak, a woman holding an infant, a carved horse figurine, and black-sailed ships crossing a gray sea. The project was built as a creative collaboration between Grok Imagine—the image and video generator from SpaceXSI—alongside Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. Wonder Studios promoted the release on social media with the statement, “Homer didn’t have Grok… we do.”

Public Backlash and Previous Cinematic Criticism

The AI project’s debut arrives amid ongoing friction between Musk and traditional Hollywood figures regarding film production standards and casting decisions. Ahead of the AI release, Musk criticized upcoming cinematic adaptations of classical material, specifically targeting director Christopher Nolan’s casting choices. Musk accused Nolan of selecting Elliot Page as Achilles’ Ghost and Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy merely to satisfy Academy representation and inclusion standards for Oscar eligibility, writing in March that Nolan acted as an “anti-White racist” seeking awards.

Musk’s AI filmmaking ambitions previously drew sharp public rebukes from established filmmakers. Following Musk’s initial July announcement about producing an AI-generated version of Homer’s work, “Doctor Strange” and “The Black Phone” director Scott Derrickson directly challenged the tech mogul on X. Derrickson posted that Musk “doesn’t know shit about cinema & he stopped reading in his 20s,” adding that his opinions on art are worthless.

Production Details and Enterprise Expansion for Grok

Neither Grok Imagine nor Musk has disclosed how many total episodes are planned for the AI-generated series or when subsequent installments will premiere. Following the release of the first episode, the Grok Imagine account on X invited viewers to comment if they wanted a full breakdown of how the production was achieved. Earlier in the week, the platform published a step-by-step guide for users to generate consistent animated characters by gathering reference images in a Grok Imagine canvas, brainstorming styles, and refining source assets for props and backgrounds.

The release coincides with broader commercial pushes for the underlying technology. SpaceXSI recently established a partner network to integrate Grok into enterprise business operations, while a Tesla engineer utilized the AI assistant to help tune the rearview camera view on the company’s Cybercab.
