Luhrmann described the project as aiming to create something new within the Elvis Presley canon, intending to offer both a spectacle befitting Presley’s performance legacy and a deeper exploration of his personal life.

Starring Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis was a notable critical and commercial success, earning over $288 million worldwide and receiving eight Academy Award nominations. Luhrmann has also confirmed plans to develop a stage adaptation of the film.

NME awarded the film a four-star review, praising it as “a big-screen epic we can’t help falling in love with.” The review highlighted Presley’s dedication to his fans and lamented the perhaps detrimental influence of Colonel Parker on his career.
