Epsilon Carbon Fiber Expansion in India Fueled by Official Visit and Tamil Nadu Contracts
Epsilon, a specialist in carbon fiber pultrusion, is significantly expanding its presence in India, spurred by recent high-level engagements and finalized contracts in Tamil Nadu. The company is investing €6 million to launch its first industrial unit in the country, with plans for a total investment of €25 million over five years. This expansion is driven by increasing demand for its advanced composite core conductor (HVCRC) technology, which enhances the capacity of high and very high voltage cables.
Overcoming Administrative Hurdles
According to Alexandre Lull, a company manager, the timing of an official visit facilitated the removal of administrative obstacles that had previously stalled several files. “Before the trip, several files were blocked by local administrative burdens. The fact of arriving in an official sequence removed obstacles,” Lull stated.
HVCRC Technology and Market Demand
Epsilon’s HVCRC technology replaces the steel core in high-voltage cables with a lighter and more stable carbon core. This allows for increased aluminum integration, ultimately boosting the capacity of the power lines. The company already has “more than ten projects” underway in India, primarily in the cable business, representing 95% of its local operations.
Key Clients and Market Leadership
Epsilon’s clients include major Indian public and private sector players such as Power Grid (India’s national electricity transmission network), Tata Power, Bharat Aluminum Company (Balco) and Mittal Steel. The company anticipates that India will turn into its largest market this year, potentially doubling its turnover. In 2025, Epsilon reported a turnover of €35 million.
Expanding Product Portfolio
Beyond its core cable business, Epsilon has also secured its first Indian order for the Blacklite tactical stretcher, an ultra-light and compact product designed for special forces. The company also benefited from networking opportunities at the Franco-Indian CEO Forum, connecting with French decision-makers based in India.
Strategic Investment in Local Manufacturing
Epsilon is shifting towards local manufacturing to address logistical challenges and meet increasing partner demands. “Exporting from France is too complicated. You have to integrate deadlines, logistics and costs. And local manufacturing will be increasingly demanded by our partners,” explained Lull.
French Consular Presence in India
France maintains a consular presence in several Indian cities, including Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Puduchery, offering assistance to French citizens and those planning to travel to France. The French Consulate in Chennai provides consular services and support. The Consulate General of France in Pondicherry, which includes the Bureau of France in Chennai, offers a range of services including visa processing, economic support, and cultural exchange programs.
Business France, the French public consultancy for internationalization, also has a presence in Chennai, supporting the international development of French companies and attracting foreign investment. Business France Chennai plays a key role in facilitating these initiatives.
