From Actress to Psychotherapist: The Journey of Eva Vejmělková
Eva Vejmělková will celebrate her fifty-seventh birthday on Wednesday, away from the bustle of Prague in Havířov, Moravian-Silesian region. She voluntarily exchanged a career in film for a profession dedicated to understanding the human soul, becoming a psychotherapist sought after by clients traveling from across the country.
Early Career and a Fateful Meeting
Vejmělková began her acting career early, leading to a lifelong passion for the arts. During the filming of the musical film Fontána pro Zuzanu, she caught the eye of director Dušan Rapoš, who was sixteen years her senior. The couple married in Las Vegas, with an Elvis Presley impersonator officiating the ceremony. Together, they raised two daughters, Tara and Rita.
A Shift in Priorities and Return to Education
Motherhood prompted Vejmělková to seek a more stable life. Rather than waiting for acting roles, she decided to take control of her future and pursued a degree in psychology at Palacký University in Olomouc. She successfully completed her studies and began applying her new knowledge in practice.
Focus on Addiction and Mental Health
Preparing for a role as a drug addict in the film Suzanne sparked a deep interest in addiction. Vejmělková gained practical experience at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital in Prague, working with severely addicted patients under the guidance of experienced professionals. This experience solidified her commitment to helping others professionally.
Current Practice and Therapeutic Approach
Today, Vejmělková works with adults and children aged six and older at her counseling center in Havířov. She specializes in partner problems, anxiety, and depression, and incorporates hypnosis methods to help clients find inner balance and motivation.1
A Creative Spirit Remains
While she has largely left the world of show business, Vejmělková occasionally engages in creative projects with her husband, such as co-writing the script for the comedy Woman’s Revenge. Still, her primary focus remains on her work as a psychotherapist.
Finding Joy in Simplicity
Vejmělková finds fulfillment in everyday life and family in Havířov. She stated, “I’m not currently acting. I work in the field of psychology and my clients are the ‘stars’ there.”4
