Arteta Satisfied with Tight Win and Saka Update

Mikel Arteta addressed the media following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Emirates Stadium on Friday night. The Gunners secured another win, but Arteta stressed the need for greater attacking efficiency alongside the consistently strong defensive display.

Match Review and Attacking Concerns

Arteta expressed satisfaction with the overall performance, highlighting the clean sheet and the team’s control over the match. He acknowledged the challenging nature of the opposition and the compressed fixture schedule, with games decided by narrow margins. “It’s a really difficult opposition. We’re playing so many games. You see that teams are winning for very small margins. Today we could have done the margins much bigger.”

Despite the victory, Arteta lamented missed opportunities, particularly in the second half. “More, more. And today we had some big openings… we should have scored more,” he admitted.

Injury Updates: Saka and Sterling

Turning to injuries, Arteta provided an update on Bukayo Saka. “He had a procedure. Everything went well. But, unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks,” he confirmed, indicating an absence stretching beyond two months.

On Raheem Sterling’s fitness, Arteta offered cautious optimism. “The news with Raz, I think it’s better. We have to see this week how he evolves. But we expect it, the knee injury to probably take longer than actually the way the knee is evolving in the last few days.”

Gabriel Martinelli’s Right-Wing Experiment

Arteta addressed Gabriel Martinelli’s brief stint on the right wing, suggesting it’s part of a broader plan to adapt the team to evolving circumstances. “As I said, I think the replacement of Bukayo is going to be the team, you know, and that unit in particular and having minutes together and asking different things and doing that,” he explained.

He emphasized the need for team cohesion and support for Martinelli, noting that he “needs people around him. He needs constant threat. He needs to be always in the last line when the ball is on his side.”

Looking Ahead

Despite Saka’s setback, Arteta expressed confidence in the team’s ability to cope. “We never rely on an individual scoring 25, 30 goals… and we’re going to manage to do that.” The manager focused on the importance of the collective, emphasizing that Arsenal’s strength lies in their team performance.
