Las exports Spanish goods fell 5.3% quarter-on-quarter in the period from April to June, registering a decrease for the first time since the beginning of 2021, due to the weak international demand and to the drop in orders from our main trading partners.

According to the Customs data published this Tuesday, Spanish companies sold goods abroad in the second quarter for a value of 97,267.3 million euros, 5.3% less than in the period January to March and 4% less than in the same period of the previous year. Imports also fell, 2% quarter-on-quarter, to 107,109.4 million euros, bringing the trade deficit down to 9,842.1 million euros and the coverage rate standing at 90.8%.

The poor behavior of exports in the second quarter was offset in the first half of the year by the good record of the first, but it was the main brake on the advance of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between April and June, as the INE had already verified and this medium had published.

The drop in exports began in April and has been sharpening little by little throughout the quarter: in March, accumulated exports for twelve months totaled 402,281 million; in April they dropped to 400,310; in May, to 399,208, and in June, to 398,241.

If the data from Junethe last month and the weakest, there is a drop in foreign sales in interannual terms of energy products (we sold 41.2% less), raw materials (-28.5%), non-chemical semi-invoices (-18.9%), chemical products (-3.4%) and goods of durable consumption (-14.4%).
