Xishuangbanna Welcomes First ASEAN Visa-Free Tour Group
KUNMING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) — On Tuesday evening, excitement filled the China-Laos Railway’s Xishuangbanna station as a group of 15 tourists from Thailand and Laos stepped off the train. They were greeted with a traditional water-splashing ceremony and a vibrant dance performance, marking a significant milestone in tourism between China and ASEAN countries.
Visa-Free Access Opens Doors to Southwest China’s Hidden Gem
This marks the first tour group from ASEAN countries to visit the Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province since the implementation of a new visa relaxation policy. Under this policy, tour groups from ASEAN nations can now visit Xishuangbanna – a popular tourist destination in Yunnan – visa-free for up to six days.
During their stay, the group will immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty of Xishuangbanna, savor its delectable local cuisine, and experience the rich traditions and customs of the Dai ethnic group.
Boosting Tourism and Strengthening Partnerships
The new visa policy, effective since February 10, aims to revitalize tourism in Southwest China. It is anticipated to expand opening-up, promote cultural exchange, and deepen the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. The National Immigration Administration stated that this move is a step towards fostering stronger ties and understanding between China and its ASEAN neighbors.
Jiang Jie, deputy director of the culture and tourism bureau of Xishuangbanna, believes that this policy will further stimulate the local inbound tourism market. Xishuangbanna is committed to developing innovative tourism formats and enhancing its infrastructure to provide an exceptional experience for visitors from across the region.
