Michael Flatley’s Legal Battles Over ‘Lord of the Dance’ Intensify

The future of “Lord of the Dance” is once again embroiled in legal conflict, as choreographer and former performer Michael Flatley fights to maintain control over the iconic Irish dance production. A dispute with Switzer Consulting Ltd. Has escalated, with allegations of breach of contract and questions surrounding ownership of the present’s rights.

Legal Dispute with Switzer Consulting Ltd.

Switzer Consulting Ltd. Initiated legal action against Flatley, claiming he breached an agreement reached in July 2024 for the company to manage the “multi-million pound production.” As reported by the BBC, the firm initially obtained a temporary injunction barring Flatley from involvement in upcoming shows. However, on January 29, 2026, a judge in Belfast refused to grant a full injunction, lifting the temporary ban.

The judge’s decision was based on the potential for Flatley to suffer “potentially unquantifiable” lost revenue if the injunction were to remain in place. According to the BBC, Flatley hailed the outcome as a “fantastic victory” for himself, his dancers and the entire production team.

Flatley Claims Ownership of Switzer Consulting Ltd.

Flatley’s legal team has asserted that he holds “100% of the beneficial interest” in Switzer Consulting Ltd., as reported by Business Plus. He claims the company was retained as a service provider and granted a 60-month license to manage the tour, with potential earnings of up to £2.275m (€2.61m). He alleges Switzer Consulting Ltd. Failed to fulfill its contractual obligations and has undermined the show’s marketing and production.

Former Solicitor’s Role in the Dispute

The legal battle has been further complicated by a dispute involving Flatley’s former solicitor. The Irish Independent reports that the former solicitor is refusing to provide documents crucial to Flatley’s case, potentially hindering his efforts to assert control over “Lord of the Dance.” The case is valued at approximately €200m.

Tour Schedule and Future of the Show

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Flatley has stated that the show will continue. He expressed his commitment to the production, saying, “The show goes on and we are going to lift the roof (in Dublin) on Thursday.” The BBC reported that the 30th-anniversary tour is scheduled to open in Dublin on February 5th, and Switzer Consulting Ltd. Has reassured audiences that the performances will proceed as planned.

As of March 21, 2026, Michael Flatley remains locked in a legal dispute with Switzer Consulting Ltd. Over control of “Lord of the Dance,” with the involvement of his former solicitor adding another layer of complexity to the case. The outcome of this legal battle will determine the future direction of the internationally renowned Irish dance show.
