Zimbabwean Prophet Walter Magaya Under Investigation for Fraudulent Diploma
Zimbabwe’s Anglican Church leader, ‘Prophet’ Walter Magaya, is facing a fraud investigation by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) after the University of South Africa (UNISA) confirmed that he never received a diploma as he claimed. The investigation stems from Magaya’s attempt to contest the ZIFA presidency, arguing that his alleged diploma qualified him despite not meeting the minimum five O-Level pass requirement.
Magaya’s Diploma Claims Encounter Scrutiny
Magaya submitted the National Diploma in Marketing, allegedly issued by UNISA in October 2015, to the High Court of Zimbabwe in an attempt to overturn ZIFA’s disqualification. However, UNISA has unequivocally stated that Magaya was never a student or graduate of the institution. “Any certificate he presents as being from UNISA is therefore fraudulent,” the university declared on January 29th.
ZACC Seeks Documents
ZACC is actively pursuing the case, having formally requested all documents Magaya submitted for his ZIFA candidacy from ZIFA. The commission has also contacted the Judicial Service Commission to obtain records from Magaya’s High Court challenge. The investigation, initiated on January 31st, focuses on Magaya’s alleged diploma and aims to determine the veracity of his claims.
Magaya’s Background
Walter Magaya is a prominent religious figure, serving as the founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministry. He is also the owner of Yadah Stars, a team competing in Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League. The ongoing investigation into Magaya’s credentials has significantly impacted his public image and raised concerns about transparency and accountability within Zimbabwean institutions.
