Son of Norway’s Crown Princess on Trial for Rape and Multiple Other Charges

Oslo, Norway – Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-classic son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, is currently on trial facing a total of 40 criminal charges, including rape, violence, and drug possession. The trial, which began in February 2026 at Oslo District Court, is expected to last until March 13, 2026.

Background

Marius Borg Høiby was born on January 13, 1997, to Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby and Morten Borg. His mother later married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, becoming Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Høiby is not a member of the royal family and holds no official position within the royal household.

The Charges

Initially facing 38 charges, the prosecution added six more in mid-February 2026, bringing the total to 40. These include:

  • Rape (four counts)
  • Grievous bodily harm (one count)
  • Bodily harm (one count)
  • Criminal damage (two counts)
  • Sexually offensive filming/photography (three counts)
  • Reckless behavior (six counts)
  • Violations of a restraining order (seven counts, totaling thousands of violations according to the prosecution)
  • Drug possession (one count)
  • Speeding on motorcycle (three counts)

Høiby has admitted to some of the charges, including bodily violation, several counts of intimidating behavior, two counts of damage, and some violations of the restraining order. He denies the four counts of rape, alleging the incidents occurred while the alleged victims were asleep or incapacitated.

The “Frogner Woman” Testimony

Much of the recent court proceedings have focused on the testimony of a woman referred to as the “Frogner woman.” Her testimony, delivered largely behind closed doors, details a turbulent relationship with Høiby marked by periods of jealousy, drug use, and violence.

  • The woman described their relationship as quickly captivating but also chaotic, involving individuals with criminal backgrounds.
  • She recounted instances of Høiby becoming angry and destructive, including throwing a glass against a wall in Berlin and breaking her computer in Norway.
  • She testified that Høiby filmed her without her consent and took pictures of her during sex without her permission, despite her objections.
  • The woman alleged instances of physical violence, including being spat on, slapped, and held in a chokehold.
  • She stated she initially hesitated to report the incidents to the police due to fear of information being leaked to the media and a desire not to further harm Høiby.

The prosecution presented audio recordings of Høiby making threats and accusations towards the woman, including promises to retaliate and derogatory language.

Current Status and Imprisonment

As of March 2026, Marius Borg Høiby is being held at Oslo Prison while the trial continues. He was initially arrested the day before the trial began and has been arrested on four separate occasions related to this case.

Potential Penalties

Reckless behavior can carry a jail term of up to two years in Norway. The potential penalties for the other charges vary depending on the severity of the offenses and the court’s decision.
