Paul Gallagher Takes the Reins as New Irish Hotels Federation CEO

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) has announced the appointment of Paul Gallagher, a seasoned hospitality leader with over four decades of experience, as its new chief executive. Gallagher brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success to this crucial role, tasked with leading the national representative body for over 900 hotels and guesthouses in Ireland.

Gallagher’s Extensive Background in Tourism and Hospitality

Prior to joining the IHF, Gallagher served as the General Manager of Buswells Hotel in Dublin for an impressive 27 years. He has also held the prestigious position of chair of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC), demonstrating his deep understanding and commitment to the sector. Gallagher’s career has been dedicated to driving growth and positive change within the tourism and hospitality industry.

A Focus on Growth and Development for Irish Tourism

In his new role, Gallagher will spearhead the IHF’s strategic direction, working closely with industry partners, government bodies, and state agencies to champion the interests of the hotel sector. The goal is to create a supportive environment that fosters the continued expansion and development of Irish tourism and hospitality. This is particularly important considering the industry currently supports over 270,000 livelihoods across Ireland, with 66,000 people directly employed within the hotel and guesthouse sector.

His deep understanding of our sector, extensive experience, and outstanding contribution to the strategic development of our industry means the Federation is in very capable hands.”

Gallagher’s Vision for the Future of Irish Hospitality

Gallagher expressed his honor in accepting the position and his belief in the bright future of Irish tourism and hospitality. He emphasized the critical role the IHF will play in ensuring the sector remains a key driver of economic growth and prosperity for Ireland: “While there are certainly significant challenges ahead for tourism and hospitality, I firmly believe we have a very bright future as a major engine for growth and economic prosperity, provided we remain at the heart of the Government’s economic policy.”
