Government IVF Services Expand Access to Fertility Treatment in Telangana
Hyderabad, Telangana – A growing number of couples in Telangana are finding hope through government-run IVF centers, with a recent success story highlighting the increasing role of public healthcare institutions in providing advanced fertility services. Since the inauguration of IVF centers at Gandhi Hospital and the Modern Government Maternity Hospital (MGHM) Petlaburj in late 2024, a total of 190 positive cases have been recorded through intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.
Success Story at Gandhi Hospital
A 30-year-old woman from Alwal, after multiple unsuccessful IUI attempts at private hospitals, recently delivered a healthy baby girl following IVF treatment at Gandhi Hospital. She initially sought treatment at the hospital in February 2025. After a comprehensive evaluation, doctors initiated medical ovulation induction, which proved insufficient. She then underwent IVF, and delivered a 2-kilogram female infant via emergency cesarean section on February 7, 2026. The newborn received monitoring in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to prematurity before being reunited with her mother under pediatric care. Both mother and baby are doing well.
Expanding Infertility Services in Telangana
The establishment of these IVF centers marks a significant expansion of infertility services within Telangana’s public healthcare system. Between the inception of services and January 2026, the two centers collectively registered 8,359 new infertility outpatients and 19,013 review cases, totaling 27,372 outpatient visits.
Diagnostic Procedures Performed
- Hysterosalpingography: 568 procedures were conducted to assess the uterus and fallopian tubes.
- Follicular Studies: 14,033 ultrasound scans were used to monitor ovulation.

- Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): 366 IUIs were performed, leading to 19 positive cases. Gandhi Hospital conducted 32 procedures with 2 successes, while MGMH Petlaburj accounted for 334 procedures and 17 positive cases.
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): 97 IVF stimulation cycles were performed, resulting in 100 ovum pickups and 48 embryo transfers, leading to 12 IVF-positive cases (7 at Gandhi Hospital and 5 at MGMH Petlaburj).
Growing Trust in Public Sector Fertility Services
The success of these government-run centers reflects a growing trust in public-sector fertility services, offering a more affordable alternative to private clinics. The centers provide a range of services, from initial infertility evaluations to advanced assisted reproductive technologies.
