Garmin Releases Edge 1060 Cycling Computer Alongside Tacx Nēra Trainer

Garmin introduced the Edge 1060 premium cycling computer alongside the Tacx Nēra smart indoor trainer in response to an increase in cycling activity recorded across Indonesia through its digital ecosystem, Spatial Highlights reported. Between January and September 2026, Garmin Connect Indonesia logged 899,224 cycling activities, rising from 595,609 activities during the same period in 2025, according to data cited by detikInet and Jagat Gadget.

The rise in recorded rides reflects a shift toward everyday mobility and community riding, according to Rian Krisna, Marketing Communications Manager for Garmin Indonesia, as reported by detikInet. To support this growth across different environments, the company scheduled the Edge 1060 for a December 9, 2026 release, while the Tacx Nēra is slated for January 2027.

Voice Control and Navigation Upgrades on the Edge 1060

Designed primarily for road cyclists, the Edge 1060 incorporates a built-in microphone and speaker that allow riders to issue voice commands by saying Okay, Garmin to check performance metrics, search for routes, or exchange voice messages through Garmin Messenger, as detailed by detikInet. The device features a hybrid interface that pairs a colour touchscreen with physical buttons, ensuring riders can maintain control during heavy rain when touch inputs become impractical, according to Mobitekno.

Navigation tools include activity-specific routing, elevation preferences, traffic updates, and Trendline Popularity Routing, which selects paths frequently used by other Garmin cyclists. The unit also supports Free Flow Routing, GroupRide location sharing, and Forksight Mode for upcoming trail elevations. Powered by a battery rated for up to 20 hours of intensive use or 60 hours in power-saving mode, the Edge 1060 integrates safety tools such as ClimbPro, incident detection, and live tracking.

Indoor Training Precision with the Tacx Nēra

To help riders maintain consistency during poor weather and urban air pollution, Garmin developed the Tacx Nēra smart indoor trainer, which Pluang reported is priced at $999,99. The device measures power and cadence with an accuracy range within 1%, simulates gradients up to 20%, and supports sprints up to 2,200 watts, according to Jagat Gadget.

The indoor trainer allows users to remove their rear wheel without adjusting cassettes for virtual shifting systems compatible with platforms like Zwift and ROUVY, as noted by Pluang. Built-in Motion Pods enable the unit to move forward, backward, and sideways to mimic outdoor riding physics. When paired with the Tacx Alpine accessory, elevation simulation expands to a 25% incline and a 10% decline.

Market Context and Regional Rollout Plans

The hardware rollout follows strong financial positioning for the parent company, with Garmin Ltd. (GRMN) shares trading at USD 286,17 on October 20, 2026, near its 52-week high of USD 313,16, according to Pluang data. While the Edge 1060 and Tacx Nēra head to Indonesia, Garmin global releases such as the Edge Explore 3 and Edge Explore 3 Plus will not be marketed officially in the country, leaving local touring cyclists to rely on existing models like the Edge 540, Edge 840, and the new flagship computer, as reported by Jagat Gadget.
