In the press release, Rizhvadze wanted to express his gratitude to the party that supported his political ascent, the “Georgian dream”, and in particular towards its founder, the influential oligarch bidzina Ivanishvili.

The outgoing premier then addressed words of thanks also to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobokhidze and to President Mikheil Kavelashvili for the support provided during his mandate, defining their support a fundamental element to carry on the projects and reforms started in the autonomous region.

“I want to thank the people of Ajara for the trust that has granted me in all these years. It was an honor to serve this region and contribute to its development. Now, however, I feel that the time has come to take a new path, to try something different, to look forward with renewed energy,” said Rizhvadze.

Rizhvadze’s resignation arrive in a politically delicate moment for Georgia, marked by strong internal tensions and a growing polarization between the government and the opposition.

On the foreign policy front, the president of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, during an interview with the local press, said: “We are ready to relaunch relations with the United States, on the basis of mutual respect and a strategic partnership equal,” said Papuashvili, underlining, however, that Tbilisi alone cannot determine a change.

Papuashvili has also returned to the causes that led to the deterioration of the relations between the two countries, attributing them in part to the conduct of the previous US administration: “I often reiterated that to overcome the diplomatic crisis it was important that the previous American leadership recognized its mistakes”.

The Georgian Parliament therefore shows itself willing to a rapprochement, but places some conditions: relationships based on sovereignty, balance and non -interference, in an increasingly complex regional context, marked by Russian pressures, European ambitions and internal tensions.

The opposition declarations of opposition is of a completely different tone. Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the party “Strategies manufacturers”, launched a tough attack on the current executive, led by the “Georgian dream”. According to Vashadze, the political line of Bidzina Ivanishvili – central figure of the party and accused by several fronts of exercising an oligarchic influence on the government – would have led Georgia to a growing international isolation.

“It is a catastrophe for the security and peace of our country. We are gaining enemies, not allies. Georgia was safe when enjoying the support of the United States, the European Union and the main western economic powers. Now that they left us alone, the risk increases day after day”.

The opposition leader warned that every day when the government party remains in office represents an aggravation of the situation: “Peace does not come with the chatter, nor with the autocracy, nor in an impoverished country. Peace is built with strong allies, reliable partners, transparent governments and a solid economy”.
