Gibran Rakabuming Raka Embraces “Jokowi-style” Visits as Vice President
ewly-inaugurated Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took a page out of his father’s playbook, embarking on a series of unannounced visits shortly after being sworn in. These visits, reminiscent of former President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s signature style, have sparked curiosity and highlighted Gibran’s commitment to overseeing President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship initiatives.
Gibran asserts that his impromptu tours are simply him fulfilling his role as President Prabowo’s deputy, ensuring the smooth execution of key development projects.
Prioritizing Development Projects
“As the President’s assistant, my primary goal is to ensure ongoing development projects progress according to schedule and meet agreed timelines,” Gibran stated, quoted by Kompas.com during a visit to a state-run high school in South Jakarta. He was there to observe the trial run of the free meals program for students, a cornerstone policy of President Prabowo’s agenda.
Earlier this week, Gibran made surprise visits to crucial infrastructure projects in Jakarta. These included the second phase of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) connecting the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to Ancol, and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project spanning from Manggarai to Rawamangun. His aim was to guarantee these projects remain on track for their anticipated inauguration by President Prabowo.
Diplomatic Engagements
Beyond his focus on infrastructure, Gibran has also demonstrated his commitment to international relations. On Monday, he held a noteworthy bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at the vice president’s office in Central Jakarta.
These actions highlight Gibran’s multifaceted approach to his role, balancing domestic development with diplomatic efforts.
