Google’s AI Overviews Now Available in Over 100 Countries
Google Search is taking its AI-powered overviews global. The company announced on Monday that these information snapshots, which appear at the top of search results pages, are expanding to more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.
Initially launched in the United States in May, AI Overviews have rapidly gained traction, exceeding 1 billion monthly global users. This expansion marks a significant milestone, making the feature accessible to a broader audience.
Multilingual Support
To enhance global accessibility, Google is introducing AI Overviews in several languages, including English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. This multilingual support aims to cater to a wider range of users and provide localized search experiences.
Ads Integration and Refinement
Alongside the global rollout, Google is integrating AI Overviews with its advertising platform. The company recently announced that ads will now be displayed within AI Overviews for relevant mobile queries in the United States. This integration aims to provide targeted advertising opportunities to businesses.
Despite a rocky launch that saw AI Overviews providing inaccurate and even potentially harmful information (e.g., suggesting users put glue on pizza), Google has been actively refining the feature. Recent updates and a similar feature introduced on the Google Shopping page demonstrate the company’s commitment to improving accuracy and user safety.
