Hawaii DOT Seeks Public Input on Long-Range Transportation Plan
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is inviting public participation in the update of the Statewide Long-Range Land Transportation Plan (Plan), a roadmap for improving transportation systems throughout the state through 2045. The plan will address the needs of freight, motorists, transit, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Plan Focus and Goals
The Statewide Long-Range Land Transportation Plan examines current and future transportation needs, considering factors such as congestion, safety, sea-level rise, erosion, and changing travel patterns. It aims to identify priorities and solutions to maintain critical routes safe, reliable, and resilient. The plan also guides decisions about which projects to fund. HDOT is updating the plan to assess the state’s transportation system and outline investment strategies for future needs.
Public Meetings Scheduled
HDOT will host virtual public meetings to share survey results, scenario planning outcomes, financial forecasts, and funding strategies. Meetings are scheduled as follows:
- Statewide Long-Range Land Transportation Plans: Tuesday, March 10, Microsoft Teams. Afternoon meeting: 12 p.m. To 1 p.m. Register here. Evening meeting: 6 p.m. To 7 p.m. Register here.

Previous Public Input
A series of public meetings were held in March 2025 to share plan goals, objectives, and existing conditions. Surveys were conducted to gather feedback on transportation needs, and opportunities. Regional Long-Range Land Transportation Plans were last updated in July 2014, prompting this current update due to changes in population, development, and travel needs.
