HealthPoint CEO Transition: Mary Wauters Named Interim Leader

The HealthPoint medical services provider, serving Brazos and seven other Texas counties, has announced a leadership change. Dr. Terri Sabella is departing after five years to accept a similar position in Washington state, allowing her to be closer to family. Mary Wauters, currently HealthPoint’s chief operating officer, will assume the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

About HealthPoint

HealthPoint operates 11 clinics across a multi-county region, including two locations in Bryan, and facilities in College Station, Hearne, Franklin, Caldwell, Navasota, Madisonville, Centerville, Hempstead, and Trinity. HealthPoint also provides services to the Franklin and Calvert Independent School Districts.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), HealthPoint is committed to providing comprehensive care regardless of a patient’s insurance status. Services include primary care, behavioral health (delivered via telehealth), dental care, and pharmacy services, with the pharmacy currently located in Bryan and expanding to other locations. A mobile unit also supports service delivery.

Leadership Changes Explained

Dr. Sabella’s departure marks the finish of her five-year tenure as CEO. She is moving to a chief executive position with another FQHC in Washington. According to a HealthPoint press release, this move will allow her to be closer to her family.

Mary Wauters brings extensive operational experience to the interim CEO role. As COO, she has overseen clinic operations, strategic growth, and quality improvement initiatives. Mike Sutherland, Chair of the HealthPoint Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Wauters’ ability to lead the organization during this transition. “She brings deep operational expertise, steady leadership, and a strong commitment to our mission,” Sutherland stated.

Wauters expressed her commitment to continuity of care for patients and support for employees. The HealthPoint Board of Directors has initiated a process to identify a permanent CEO.

Terri Sabella’s New Role

Notably, Dr. Sabella has been selected as the new CEO of the North Olympic Healthcare Network (NOHN) in Port Angeles, Washington, effective May 18, 2026. NOHN conducted a national search to fill the position, which was previously held by Michael Maxwell, who is retiring in May 2026.

Dr. Sabella holds a doctoral degree in healthcare management and health policy from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, a law degree from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin.

HealthPoint’s Continued Stability

HealthPoint remains financially stable and operationally sound, according to the Board of Directors. The organization’s strength is attributed to its dedicated staff and its mission to provide accessible, high-quality care.
