“In the pediatric ward, it reaches 40-42°C. There’s no air conditioning, only fans that aren’t in every room,” said a nursing assistant and union activist at the CHRU de Tours, as reported by Franceinfo. A representative from SUD Santé Sociaux, a healthcare workers’ union, confirmed the staff’s “system D” efforts to cool patients, highlighting the lack of infrastructure to address the crisis.
Parents Describe Unbearable Conditions in Hospital Waiting Rooms
Parents bringing children for consultations have also described the dire conditions. “Inside the waiting rooms, there’s no air conditioning, so it’s hotter than outside. It’s impossible to stay,” one parent told local media. The lack of cooling systems in public spaces has exacerbated the hardship for patients and families alike.

Enedis, the electricity network operator, attributed the incident to an underground “malfunction” linked to the heat.
