Hernandez Govan walked free on Friday (August 16th) after a jury found him not guilty of charges related to the 2021 murder of rapper Young Dolph. Govan was accused of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
The trial, which unfolded in Memphis, Tennessee, presented evidence linking Govan to the events surrounding Dolph’s death. However, the jury ultimately determined that the prosecution did not present enough evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was fatally shot outside a Dallas avenue cookie shop in Memphis on November 17, 2021. Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith were previously convicted in connection with the murder. johnson received a life sentence, and Smith is awaiting sentencing.
While Govan has been acquitted of these charges,the examination into Dolph’s murder remains ongoing. Authorities continue to pursue other potential suspects and gather additional evidence.
