Hillary Clinton and Republican South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace engaged in a heated exchange during Clinton’s deposition last week regarding alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with newly released video capturing the contentious back-and-forth.
The GOP-led House Oversight Committee questioned Clinton for hours during her February 26 deposition, focusing on her alleged connections to Epstein, which Clinton has denied.
The situation escalated when Mace questioned Clinton about her relationship with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Lutnick has recently faced scrutiny over his past association with Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor for prostitution in Florida .
In the released clip, Clinton explained that she met Lutnick after 650 of his employees at Cantor Fitzgerald – a financial services firm located in the World Trade Center – were killed during the 9/11 attacks in 2001, while she was serving as a New York Senator.
Mace interrupted Clinton, asserting that the former Senator was attempting to avoid the question. Mace also pointed out her own experience as a survivor of sexual assault, drawing a parallel to the experiences of Epstein’s numerous victims .
Mace then referenced an email from Lutnick to Epstein, in which Lutnick allegedly requested Epstein donate money to Clinton for a political event at Cantor Fitzgerald.
Clinton responded by raising her voice, demanding to finish her answer. She also attempted to express sympathy for Mace regarding her experience with sexual assault, but Mace remained unmoved .
The exchange highlighted a clear animosity between the two women.
Hillary Clinton’s advisor, Nick Merrill, disputed Mace’s characterization of the deposition, pushing back against claims that Clinton became “unglued” and was “screaming” . Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, called for the immediate release of the unedited video to refute Mace’s account .
