Student’s Midnight Donation Saves Child’s Life

On a night in early August, six-year-old chieu Tuan Khanh from Lam Dong province received emergency treatment for severe thrombocytopenia caused by dengue fever at High High Hospital in the Central Highlands. Khanh urgently needed a platelet transfusion.

Khanh’s family promptly sought donors among relatives and friends, but none met the necessary requirements. Desperate,they contacted the Blood Donation Club of the Highlands (CLB) for assistance. Nguyen Anh Tu, a 21-year-old student in his first year at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Buon Ma Thuot, responded immediately, traveling to the hospital to donate despite heavy rain.The donation, which lasted until almost 2 am, provided the crucial platelets that helped Khanh overcome the life-threatening situation.

Chieu Van Tan,Khanh’s father,expressed his gratitude,stating,”Your actions and the club’s support not only saved my child’s life but also reaffirmed our belief in the kindness of people and their willingness to help others.”

Inspired by the belief that “happiness lies in giving,” many volunteers are now registering to donate blood and platelets to help those in emergencies, nonetheless of time or distance. This includes Chau hai My from lam Dong province and Nguyen Thi Nu from Dak Lieng commune, Dak Lak province. Both women,who have the rare Rh- B blood type,received life-saving blood transfusions during childbirth thanks to the dedication of medical staff. Now, recognizing the importance of sharing, they actively promote blood donation, particularly for rare blood groups.
