Howard Claims MEAC Championship, Secures NCAA Tournament Berth
NORFOLK, Va. – Howard University defeated Norfolk State 53-46 on Saturday, March 14, 2026, to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship. This victory marks Howard’s first MEAC championship title since 2022.
Bison Break Championship Drought
The Howard Bison ended Norfolk State’s three-year reign as MEAC champions, having previously lost to the Spartans in the championship game for the past three consecutive years. This was the fifth straight year the two teams have battled for the MEAC title. Zennia Thomas led Howard with 15 points, while Nile Miller contributed 12 points and a dominant 13 rebounds.

Both Howard and Norfolk State demonstrated significant strength throughout the regular season. Howard finished with a 13-1 record and currently boasts a 14-game winning streak. Norfolk State concluded the regular season with a 12-15 record, with all losses coming against Howard.

A mid-range jumper by Ariella Henigan gave Howard a 51-45 lead with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Norfolk State managed only one free throw for the remainder of the game, missing their final seven shot attempts. Henigan sealed the victory with two free throws in the final 22 seconds.
