ASL Airlines Pilots begin Ballot for Potential Strike Action over Recognition of Union

October 30, 2025 – Pilots at ASL Airlines Ireland have commenced a ballot for industrial action, potentially including strike action, due to the airline’s refusal to engage in negotiations with the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA). The ballot opened today and will conclude on November 7th.

ASL Airlines Ireland provides freight services for major global companies such as amazon, FedEx, and DHL. The core issue driving the potential strike is IALPA’s claim that ASL management has repeatedly ignored requests for dialogue regarding a collective labor agreement for it’s pilots.

IALPA Vice President Daniel Langan stated, “Pilots at ASL want what their colleagues in other airlines already have – a fair and transparent system for negotiating terms and conditions through their chosen representative body.” He further emphasized, “The company’s refusal to even meet with IALPA is unacceptable and contrary to the principles of good industrial relations. This ballot reflects the frustration and determination of our members to secure recognition.” https://www.ialpa.org/

as of today, ASL Airlines has declined to comment on the matter.

Recent Developments & Background:

While the original report dates back to November 2023, the situation remains unresolved as of late October 2025. A search reveals ongoing tension between IALPA and ASL Airlines regarding pilot portrayal. In February 2024, IALPA publicly criticized ASL for continuing to deny pilots the right to collective bargaining. https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2024/0215/1427441-asl-airlines-pilots-dispute/ This latest ballot represents an escalation in the dispute.
