Imran Khan Health Concerns: PTI Appeals to Supreme Court for Medical Treatment
Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking improved medical care for its founder, Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated. The party is requesting that Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad and be allowed access to his personal physicians.
Supreme Court Appeal Details
The application, filed by PTI lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, under Order XXXV Rule 6 of the Supreme Court Rules 2025, follows a government-facilitated medical check-up for Khan’s eye ailment. The plea specifically requests the court to order Khan’s “immediate shift” to Shifa International Hospital for specialized treatment from a retina specialist. The Tribune reported.
The petition highlights concerns regarding the 73-year-old former Prime Minister’s health, emphasizing his “advancing age and declining health” as matters of grave concern for both his family and the people of Pakistan. Lokmat Times detailed the concerns.
Concerns Over Medical Transparency
Khosa’s application raises concerns about the secrecy surrounding Khan’s medical examinations. He pointed out that recent procedures were conducted without the presence of Khan’s personal physicians, family members, or legal representatives. He argued that the lack of transparency has created “serious apprehensions” regarding the quality and impartiality of the medical care provided. Lokmat Times
The plea similarly requests access to Khan’s personal physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Aasim Yusuf, to be involved in all aspects of his examination and treatment. It asks that Khan’s family be informed and granted reasonable access to him during medical check-ups and treatment. The petition requests attested copies of all medical reports and checkups related to the former premier.
Previous Health Concerns and Protests
Concerns about Imran Khan’s health surfaced in late January with reports of partial vision loss in one eye. Pakistan Today reported that PTI lawmakers protested outside the Supreme Court on February 23, 2026, demanding hearings for Khan’s cases and access to independent medical evaluations.
Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, previously claimed she and other family members were denied access to visit him at Adiala Jail and raise concerns about his health, including reported vision loss.
IHC Case Fixation Request
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan stated that the party will approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday to request the fixation of Imran Khan’s pending cases. He noted that the PTI has approached the IHC 17 times and the Supreme Court 14 times in the past year, seeking justice in Khan’s cases. Lokmat Times
Gohar lamented the delay in hearing pleas related to the Al-Qadir Trust case and the Toshakhana case, emphasizing that such cases should be decided within 35 to 60 days according to judicial policy.
