Hungarian Kayak and Canoe Team Shines at World Cup
Hungary continued its remarkable performance at the World Cup, adding to the two gold medals won on the opening day.Saturday saw further success, culminating in a strong showing on Sunday morning with victories in the 500m finals. Levente Kurucz and Bence Nádas triumphed in the kayak two, while Ágnes Kiss, Great Bianka, Réka Opavszky, and Zsófia Csorba secured gold in the women’s canoe four.
The World Cup concluded on Sunday afternoon with the 5,000-meter races, which differed from the june European Championship by incorporating running sections akin to a marathon. Competitors were required to exit the water at designated points, carry their boats, and then resume paddling.
European Canoe Champion Zsófia Csorba led the six-lap race from the start, facing competition from 2019 and 2021 World champion Klimava Full.Csorba engaged in a fierce battle for silver with 2022 and 2023 Canadian winner Katie Vincent-Nal, but ultimately Vincent-Nal prevailed in the final stage, leaving Csorba with a bronze medal.
“This week was vrey long, I was starting to go crazy for everyone else. I’m glad my day finally came, I was disturbed by the World Championships within three hours and I feel it was quite triumphant,” said UTE Kenusa, who earlier won gold in the 500 meters.”I am absolutely satisfied with five thousand meters, I couldn’t have pulled one more, I rejected everything from myself. In the quad, my goal was to win, and although we weren’t the best, I am happy to be successful anyway, this is encouraging for the future.”
In the men’s 5,000-meter race,Moldova’s Sergei Tarnovski and Spain’s Jaime Hard competed for the top spot, while Balázs Adolf, who finished third in the 1000 meters, battled with Carlo Tacchini and defending champion Wiktor throughout the race.
