International River Plate Fan Day: Celebrating Ángel Labruna
Like every September 28, River fans are celebrating. Since 2003, in commemoration of the birth of the great Ángel Labruna, a founding idol of the club’s history, International Fan Day is celebrated. In that frame, the club celebrated Angelito with a special video.
As a player, Labruna integrated the mythical La Máquina, one of the most remembered teams in the history of Argentine football. He is the top scorer of the Núñez club (317 goals), the second with more appearances (515) only behind another glory such as Amadeo Carrizo and the top scorer of the Superclásicos with 16 goals against Boca.
When he returned to the club of his loves as a coach, he ended the disastrous 18-year streak without titles in 1975. He remains the man with more championships won as a footballer and head technician (22, 16 as a player and six as a coach), a figure that Gallardo matched. And as is the case with El Muñeco, his figure is immortalized with a statue on the outskirts of the Monumental.
River’s Video
To honor his greatest idol, River posted on their networks a special video on this date. Images of labruna as a player and as a coach appear, alongside the Monumental, the home of all fans.
