Indianapolis, IN – Iowa Hawkeyes defensive back Xavier Nwankpa is turning heads at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, showcasing exceptional athleticism that has scouts and coaches taking notice. The four-year player recently completed a successful career at Iowa and is now making a strong impression as he prepares for the NFL Draft.
Elite Combine Performance
Nwankpa ran an impressive 4.48-second 40-yard dash, accompanied by a 1.62-second 10-yard split. His vertical jump reached 37.5 inches. However, it was his Relative Athletic Score (RAS) that truly stood out, earning a 9.95 out of a possible 10.00. This score ranks him 7th out of 1242 strong safeties since 1987, placing him in the 99.43rd percentile.

Nwankpa’s Collegiate Career at Iowa
While Nwankpa didn’t see extensive playing time as a freshman, he developed into a key contributor for the Hawkeyes. In 2023, he began to produce a significant impact. He recorded 42 total tackles as a sophomore, followed by 41 tackles as a junior. His senior season in 2025 was his most productive, with 76 total tackles (50 solo), along with two forced fumbles.
Nwankpa finished his career with three interceptions, including a pick-six as a freshman. He also added one sack during his sophomore year.
NFL Draft Outlook
Nwankpa’s performance at the NFL Combine has significantly boosted his draft stock. Scouts believe his combination of size (6’2”, 213 pounds) and elite athleticism gives him a high ceiling.
