Jack Antonoff Slams AI Music Creators as ‘Godless Whores’ in Viral Manifesto
Jack Antonoff isn’t holding back on the rise of artificial intelligence in the creative arts. In a candid journal entry posted to Instagram on Wednesday, May 13, the Bleachers frontman launched a scathing attack on those using AI to generate music, labeling them “godless whores.”
Antonoff’s critique centers on the fundamental difference between artistic creation and digital optimization. For Antonoff, the act of making music isn’t about the final product, but the arduous, often unpredictable journey of getting there.
The ‘Ancient Ritual’ of Creativity
Antonoff describes the process of writing, recording, and performing as an “ancient ritual.” He argues that the drive to make the creative process quicker or easier fundamentally misses the point of why artists create in the first place.

“We (myself, the band and everyone I know, frankly) have never been looking for this work to become quicker or easier. We were never frustrated by the randomness and magic it takes. We do it for that exact reason – and without the process itself: nothingness.”
The musician warned that those attempting to “fake making art” are heading toward a dead end, telling them to “by all means drive right off that cliff.” He expressed confidence that future generations will continue to embrace the traditional, human-led ritual of music as something that “comes to us from God.”
AI ‘Slop’ and the Struggle of Human Artists
Beyond the philosophical debate, Antonoff highlighted the economic and cultural dangers of AI-generated content, which he referred to as “slop.” He suggested that while “bad actors” will reveal themselves through this low-quality output, the real victims will be talented artists who are already struggling to make an honest living.
Despite the “strange detour” of the AI era, Antonoff stated that he and his collaborators remain more dedicated than ever to revealing “what comes from within.”
Bleachers’ New Era: ‘Everyone For 10 Minutes’
This outspoken stance comes as Antonoff prepares for a major release with his band, Bleachers. Their new album, Everyone For 10 Minutes, is scheduled for release on May 22 via Dirty Hit.
The band has already provided a glimpse into the project’s sound through several singles, including:
- “You And Forever”

- “I’m Not Joking”
