Jane Fallon Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Remains Optimistic with ‘Excellent’ Prognosis
Bestselling author Jane Fallon, longtime partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, has publicly shared her recent diagnosis of breast cancer. Fallon, 65, revealed she discovered the cancer during a routine mammogram and is scheduled for surgery in the coming weeks.
Early Detection Through Routine Screening
Fallon explained in a social media post that the cancer was detected despite experiencing no symptoms. A radiographer spotted something concerning during a routine mammogram performed shortly before Christmas. “I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy,” she wrote in a post.
Following the initial discovery, Fallon underwent a series of tests, including additional mammograms, biopsies and an MRI scan, to precisely determine the extent of the cancer. “It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie,” she admitted.
Positive Outlook and Treatment Plan
Despite the diagnosis, Fallon expressed a positive outlook, stating the cancer was caught at a “very early stage” and the prognosis is “excellent.” People Magazine reported Fallon will undergo surgery the week after next and is eager to move forward with treatment.
“I’m getting fantastic care and everything is going to be fine, but to be honest I don’t really care about anything other than audio books and puzzles,” she shared.
Longtime Partner Ricky Gervais
Fallon has been in a relationship with Ricky Gervais since 1982. She is the author of fourteen novels, including Getting Rid of Matthew. The Daily Mail notes the couple has been together for over four decades.
Importance of Screening
Fallon’s experience highlights the importance of routine mammograms in detecting breast cancer, even in the absence of symptoms. Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates.
