Concert Cancellations in Jalisco Reflect Ongoing Security Concerns Following “El Mencho” Capture
Guadalajara, Mexico – A wave of concert cancellations continues to impact the Mexican state of Jalisco following the capture of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), on February 22, 2026. The latest cancellation is that of American musician Jason Mraz, scheduled to perform on March 20, 2026, at the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara.
Ocesa Confirms Cancellation Due to “Fortuitous Event”
Promoter Ocesa confirmed the cancellation, citing “complications derived from a case of fortuitous event that affects the logistics of the event,” according to statements reported by Infobae and Latinus. The company expressed gratitude for fans’ understanding. Refunds for tickets purchased online will be processed to the original payment card, while those purchased at the box office will require a refund request at the point of sale.
Sixth Cancellation Since “El Mencho’s” Arrest
Mraz’s concert is the sixth event to be canceled in Jalisco and surrounding areas since the arrest of “El Mencho” in Tapalpa. The initial cancellation occurred on February 22nd, coinciding with the operation to detain the CJNG leader, impacting a performance by Kali Uchis. Other artists affected include La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, Carolina Ross, Mago de Oz (who canceled a performance in León, Guanajuato), and Pancho Barraza (who canceled in Nayarit) 12 Horas de Veracruz reports.
Security Concerns Remain
While promoters have not officially linked the cancellations to the fallout from “El Mencho’s” arrest, the timing suggests a connection to increased security concerns in the region. The wave of cancellations highlights the potential impact of organized crime activity on cultural events in Jalisco.
