Imagine spending a night in a luxury Floating Bure on the Fijian island of Vanua Levu, then riding a brand new, Kelly Slater-designed Flat Earth surfboard signed by the surfing legend himself. Perhaps you’d follow that with jamming on an Infinity Series Fender Stratocaster, autographed by all members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All while contributing to the vital work of The Captain Paul Watson Foundation in protecting marine life.
This dream can become a reality. These items – and many more – are currently up for auction to raise funds for The Captain Paul Watson Foundation. The auction closes this Friday, November 14th, so act fast.
Captain Paul Watson and His Mission
This fundraising effort comes on the heels of Captain Paul Watson’s recent release from a five-month incarceration in Greenland. He was detained following an Interpol request from the Japanese government, a situation SURFER reported on in January 2025. Watson is a renowned anti-whaling activist and founder of the Captain Paul Watson Foundation.
“Kelly Slater and Dave Rastavich have been actively involved as supporters, and so many surfers have joined our crews,” Watson stated in a recent interview.”I’ve always looked on surfers, scuba divers, and sailors as ambassadors for the ocean. And after 50 years fighting illegal poaching, the fight is as important as ever.”
Support from Surfing and Music Icons
Kelly Slater, introduced to watson by Dave Rastavich over two decades ago, has consistently supported Watson’s direct activism. “Well, it is in your face kind of stuff,” Slater explained. “Sometimes you have to fight the good fight, and sometimes you have to talk with people to understand their purposes and methods. I really respect the balls he has, though, to just face things head on and to always put the safety of sea creatures ahead of his own.”
Auction Highlights & Incredible Values
Slater has generously donated a signed flat Earth surfboard, developed with shaper Akila Aipa. At the time of writing, bids are below both the retail price and the added value of Slater’s autograph. Beyond the Fiji getaway and the Red Hot Chili Peppers-signed Stratocaster, the auction features:
- Original artwork
- Signed skateboards
- Stays at the Lumeira Maui Retreat
- Stays at Washington State’s Shelburne Hotel
- A lunch with Captain Paul Watson in Paris (the auction playfully advises against ordering fish)
Savvy bidders can find incredible deals on these unique items.
Protecting Our Oceans
All proceeds from the auction will directly fund the Captain Paul Watson Foundation’s ongoing efforts. These resources will support the institution’s ships and crews on the frontlines of direct action, enabling them to protect, intervene, educate, and raise awareness about ocean conservation.
As the auction description suggests, getting to ride a GOAT-signed Slater Design surfboard is simply the icing on the cake.
