The new novel by British writer Ken Follett, The armor of lightfifth installment of the saga The pillars of the earththe most read historical series in the world, with 50 million copies sold, will be published worldwide on Tuesday, September 26, as reported by the publishing house Plaza&Janés.
The Welsh writer presented his book in 2008 in the Basque capital A world without endthe second part of The pillars of the earth. Vitoria dedicated a sculpture to him as a thank you for being inspired to A world without end in the restoration of the Gothic cathedral of Santa María.
Now comes the fifth part, which begins in the city of Kingsbridge in 1792 and follows the trail of a group of families whose lives are going to suffer a decisive turnaround due to the new age of machinesand through them provides a new perspective on the seismic changes that shook Europe in the 19th century.
The conflicts and brutality of the Industrial Revolution will also be aggravated because, on the other side of the sea, Napoleon prepares a violent plan to become emperor of the world. The Battle of Vitoria was fought on June 21, 1813 between the French troops escorting Joseph Bonaparte in his flight and a conglomerate of Spanish, British and Portuguese troops under the command of Arthur Wellesley, the future Duke of Wellington. Today, in the central Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, a monument stands in memory of the struggle.
