Latvian Post Faces Potential Return of 650 Shipments to US Due to Delivery Issues
Latvian post (Latvijas Pasts) is preparing to perhaps return up to 650 shipments to customers due to disruptions and congestion in international delivery networks, notably impacting packages destined for the United States. This comes as the US prepares to end its de minimis regime, which currently provides tariff exemptions for low-value imports.
The company accepted small packages and parcels for the US untill August 22nd, aiming for delivery before the US Postal Service (USPS) ceased applying the de minimis rule. Though, Latvijas Pasts reports that airlines are refusing to guarantee timely delivery of shipments from European postal operators, and the USPS is experiencing delays in accepting incoming consignments. https://dzentlmenis.lv/latvijas-pasts-piegades-uz-asv-problemas/
what is the de minimis regime? The de minimis rule sets a value threshold below which imported goods are exempt from duties and taxes. The US is raising this threshold, impacting shipments from countries like Latvia.
