Leo Cullen Champions Neurodiversity Awareness and Support

Leinster Rugby head coach Leo Cullen is opening up about his family’s journey with neurodiversity and his commitment to creating more inclusive environments for neurodivergent children. Cullen, alongside his wife Dairine Kennedy, is actively involved with Neurodiversity Ireland, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals with ADHD, autism, and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

A Personal Connection

Cullen and Kennedy’s journey began six years ago when their daughter, Iya, was diagnosed with ADHD and autism at the age of three. “It was scary going for the diagnosis,” Cullen shared. “You are thinking, ‘What does this mean?’ You see a path for your kids, something you can see ahead. But the autistic road, at that time, it was unknown for us. Will our daughter be able to speak and communicate? Will she have a full life? Will people understand her?” Irish Times

Neurodiversity Ireland: A Growing Initiative

In response to the challenges they faced, Kennedy co-founded Neurodiversity Ireland (NI) in 2022 with three other mothers. Initially launched as Neurodiversity Sandymount, the organization aimed to make the Dublin village a more welcoming and supportive place for neurodivergent children.
