Glen Cove’s Shye Places Second on The Voice Season 23

Glen Cove native Shye made a strong showing on NBC’s “The Voice” Season 23, securing the second spot and captivating audiences with her powerful vocals. While Fellow Team Michael Bublé member Sofronio Vasquez took home the top prize, Shye’s journey left a lasting impression on fans and viewers alike.

After the results were announced, Shye took to Instagram Stories, expressing her delight with her achievement. “Congrats @sofroniovasquez I love you winnaaaaa,” she posted. In another story, Shye candidly admitted, “Y’all I … wanted 2nd place so bad[.] I am so … happy right now you don’t even understand.”

Second Place Was the Intentional Goal

During an interview with Newsday, Shye revealed that her second-place finish was indeed a desired outcome. “I wanted to be No. 2. I wanted to be second place,” she shared. She expressed that she felt the pressure associated with winning the top prize and the accompanying record contract didn’t align with her aspirations.

“Yes, exactly,” Shye affirmed. “I told all my friends, ‘Vote for Sofronio, not me. I don’t want to get first place.’ Anybody on the team will tell you that. I was like, ‘Ohmigod, if I don’t get second, I’ll cry,’” she divulged.

A Sweet Duet with Michael Bublé

In a poignant moment on the final results show, Shye and Michael Bublé performed a harmonious rendition of C. Carson Parks’ “Somethin’ Stupid,” made famous by Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra. Bublé shared that he chose this song because of its heartwarming father-daughter dynamic and a desire to connect on a personal level with his protégé.

“I always thought it was such a sweet thing watching [the father and daughter] sing it together,” Bublé, 49, explained. “And I just thought that I could just be connected with you on something that’s so sweet.”

Moments before the winner was announced, Bublé shared a heartfelt message with Shye: “These are not the last words. No matter what happens, these are just one of the many words that you and I are going to share going into a future together while I watch you make beautiful music … You have something so special. And I couldn’t be happier for you in this moment.”

A Rising Star from Glen Cove
