Tom Hanks Reveals His Least Favorite Age to Replay Thanks to “Digital Makeup”
Tom Hanks, the beloved Hollywood legend, isn’t looking to relive his 30s anytime soon. While he stars as various ages in director Robert Zemeckis’s upcoming film Here, thanks to groundbreaking de-aging technology, Hanks admits that 35 was the hardest age to portray.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hanks explained, “The hardest for us was when we were playing 35. That time when your metabolism stops, gravity starts tearing you down, your bones start wearing off. You stand differently.”
Despite the challenges, Hanks insists he’s in better shape now than he was in his 30s. He attributes this to the freedoms that come with aging: “You know why? Because my kids are grown up, I’m getting decent exercise, and I can eat right,” he shared. “You can’t do that when you’re 35. Life is such a burden!”
_Here_ tells a powerful generational story about families, exploring themes of love, loss, laughter, and the journey of life. Hanks stars alongside Robin Wright, creating a dynamic duo that brings Zemeckis’s vision to life.
Zemeckis revealed that the de-aging technology functioned like “digital makeup” allowing actors to see their younger selves while filming, influencing their performance.
“They look at it and they go, ‘Oh, I’ve got to be a little bit more spry, I have to move a little quicker, I have to raise my voice a little bit.’ It was important for them to see it,” Zemeckis explained.
