Lisa Vicari Reunites with ‘Dark’ Creators for HBO Max Thriller
Lisa Vicari, the German actress best known for her role in the Netflix series Dark, is set to star in a new thriller series for HBO Max. The series reunites her with Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the creators of Dark. Production is currently underway.
A Modern Take on a Classic
The series is based on the 19th-century German children’s book Struwwelpeter, written by Heinrich Hoffmann in 1845. However, this adaptation will be a far cry from the original’s cautionary tales for children. Instead, the HBO Max series will transform the book’s ten gruesome stories into a modern thriller focusing on adult characters. The present is described as a “cruel reality” thriller that also functions as a family drama, exploring themes of punishment and forgiveness.
Plot Details
The series will center around a federal investigator tasked with solving ritual murders inspired by the dark stories within Struwwelpeter. The original book, whose title translates to “Shockheaded Peter,” features tales like that of a boy named Peter who refuses to have his hair cut, leading to unfortunate consequences.
Vicari’s Recent Perform
Vicari currently appears in the second season of Apple TV+’s Hijack, set in Berlin. She is also known for her lead role as Isi in the 2020 Netflix film Isi & Ossi, one of the streaming platform’s first German-language films. She was part of the cast of the Sky Atlantic-Canal+ series Django, a reimagining of the 1966 Italian film.
Series Origins
The project was first announced last year alongside the launch of HBO Max in Germany on January 13th. The series is being produced by Dark Ways.
