Local Knowledge Earns Rising Star Status at Keeneland

Spendthrift FarmS freshman sire sensation yaupon (by Uncle Mo) has a third ‘TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard‘ to his name,as Local Knowledge ran down the field late to win the second race on the opening weekend of Keeneland’s Fall Meet.

Breaking from post 12,the 5-2 second choice didn’t have a chance to save ground and was hung out wide for almost the entire trip under Dylan Davis. He didn’t rush through the opening furlongs after an awkward start – he missed the break and came sideways from the gate – and sat outside of nearly the entire field, paced by 6-5 race favorite Gallivant (Into Mischief), who was quickly pressured by 7-1 shot Rockies Balboa (Girvin).

That pair led into the far turn, but the Spendthrift-owned Local Knowledge was already making moves from the middle of the pack, sweeping up into fifth and gaining ground quickly on the leaders.Gallivant hit the stretch with the lead, but Local Knowledge loomed on the outside, and Davis seemed confident as he swept to the front under mostly hand-ridden urging to graduate in style. Rockies balboa got the better of Gallivant in the final strides for second, with the favorite settling for third.

Local Knowledge joins Tennessee Belle and MSW Sassy C W as ‘Rising Stars’ for Yaupon.
