Global Protests Erupt as Iran Conflict Escalates

Demonstrations took place worldwide on Saturday, March 7, 2026, as tensions rose following recent strikes involving Iran. Protesters voiced opposition to military action and called for de-escalation, with demonstrations occurring in London and elsewhere.

London Demonstration Draws Thousands

Between 5,000 and 6,000 people participated in a “Hands Off Iran” march through London, according to the Metropolitan Police. Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for an end to the strikes, with some specifically targeting the actions of the United States and Israel. The march, organized by groups including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop The War, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Muslim Association of Britain, Palestinian Forum in Britain and Friends of Al-Aqsa, culminated at the US embassy in Vauxhall.

Calls for Accountability and Peace

Speakers at the London protest included Zarah Sultana, a Member of Parliament, who referenced the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, urging the crowd not to be ignored as past warnings had been. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, now an independent MP, warned against further British involvement in what he termed an “illegal war,” emphasizing the human consequences of prolonged conflict. Protesters carried signs reading “Stop Trump’s Wars” and “Stop the war on Iran,” alongside Iranian and Palestinian flags.

Arrests and Counter-Protests

The Metropolitan Police reported five arrests made in connection with the protest. One woman was arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred due to a placard she displayed. Other arrests included possession of an offensive weapon and racially aggravated public order offences related to chants. A separate arrest was made in connection with an incident in Maida Vale on Friday. The demonstration also saw a small group of individuals holding Israeli flags, leading to confrontations with protesters who voiced accusations of “murder” and “shame.”

International Concerns and Calls for Restraint

The protests reflect growing international concern over the escalating conflict. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that demands for unconditional surrender are unrealistic. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing calls for diplomatic solutions and restraint from all parties involved.

Further Demonstrations Planned

Organizers have announced plans for a further demonstration “against the far right” to be held on March 28th in central London.
