Lourdes Unites for 11th Annual Pink October, Raising Funds for cancer Research

for the 11th consecutive year, the city of Lourdes demonstrated its unwavering commitment to breast cancer awareness adn research with its annual Pink October event. A collaborative effort between the City of Lourdes, the League Against Cancer 65, the Lions Club, and the Lourdaise Athletic Union (UAL), the 2025 edition proved to be the moast triumphant yet, both in terms of participation and funds raised.
A Day of Activity and Awareness
On Sunday, October 19th, Lake Lourdes was a hub of activity as 454 participants – including 69 runners, 350 walkers, and 35 children – took part in conventional races and walks organized by the UAL. The event began with a collective warm-up led by the Lourdes Fitness Club,setting a positive and energetic tone for the day.
Beyond the races and walks, the afternoon was dedicated to preventative health and well-being. Attendees had access to a variety of activities, including socio-aesthetic workshops, rehabilitation through sport sessions, dietary advice from a dedicated stand, exhilarating Dragon Boat rides, motorcycle excursions, relaxing reflexology sessions, and an informative breast self-examination workshop. These initiatives aimed to promote post-illness care and emphasize the importance of early detection.
Record Fundraising for a Vital Cause
Fundraising efforts were widespread, with the League Against Cancer in lourdes, alongside partner associations, the Ehpad (nursing homes), and Pic du Jer, contributing €3,858 through various initiatives, including their traditional market stand. The lions Club further bolstered the total, collecting €4,000 at the lake event. Combined, these efforts resulted in a grand total of €7,858 raised – an increase of €840 compared to the 2024 event.
Check Presentation and Future Impact
On Monday, December 15th, a formal check presentation took place at the Palais des Congrès. Mayor Thierry LAVIT and Municipal Councilor Delegate for Events Marie ETCHEVERRY were present as Joseph MURATORE, President of UAL, and Patrick Domerc, President of the Lions Club, presented the €4,000 check to representatives from Ligue 65.
Michel MIGEON, Vice-President of Ligue 65, highlighted the organization’s significant contribution to cancer research, noting that approximately €150,000 is donated annually. He also emphasized Ligue 65’s ongoing efforts to expand its reach and improve access to supportive care services throughout the Department.
