Luc Besson’s ‘Dracula’ Now Available on Streaming Platforms
Luc Besson’s reimagining of Bram Stoker’s classic novel, Dracula, is now available for viewing on digital streaming platforms. The film, a French-language production, offers a unique grab on the iconic vampire tale.
About the Film
Dracula (also titled Dracula: A Love Tale) is a 2025 English-language French Gothic romantic fantasy film written and directed by Luc Besson. The film stars Caleb Landry Jones in the titular role, alongside Christoph Waltz and Zoë Bleu. It is based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. [1]
Release and Box Office
The film was initially released theatrically in France on July 30, 2025, by SND. It subsequently had a wide theatrical release in North America on February 6, 2026. [1] As of March 7, 2026, Dracula has grossed $42 million worldwide, against a production budget of $52 million. [1]
Key Changes from the Original Novel
Besson’s adaptation of Dracula diverges from Bram Stoker’s original story in several key aspects. Notably, the character of Abraham Van Helsing, the iconic vampire hunter, does not appear in Besson’s film. [3] Instead, a character named “Priest” (played by Christoph Waltz) fulfills a similar function, inverting traditional assumptions about science and religion. Besson aimed to portray the Priest as confident and knowledgeable, contrasting with the uncertainties of science. [3]
Plot Summary
The film’s plot centers on Prince Vladimir of Wallachia, who becomes Dracula after renouncing God following the death of his wife, Elisabeta, during a battle with the Ottomans. Driven by his enduring love for Elisabeta, Dracula spends centuries searching for her reincarnation, employing vampiric agents and a specially crafted perfume to aid in his quest. The story unfolds in 1889 when Dracula encounters Jonathan Harker and discovers that Harker’s fiancée, Mina, is the reincarnation he has been seeking. [1]
