Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is touring Europe, but from a distance he celebrated what was his greatest success this week in Brazil: the appointment of Cristiano Zaninhis personal lawyer, as a new member of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
“I am happy for Zanin and for the behavior of the Senate”said the president of Brazil on Thursday night in Paris, where he is participating in the Summit of the New Financing Pact convened by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
“The winner is Brazil, it is the Supreme Court, which will have someone of great quality to defend compliance with the federal Constitution,” said the president.
Zanin’s appointment was approved by a vote of 58 to 18a large majority that gives Lula’s government hope that the new magistrate will play a leading role in the body made up of eleven judges.
According to “O Globo”, at the Planalto Palace, the seat of the Brazilian government, Zanin is expected to be “a central piece in the Judiciary to help the government”, as well as “the main bridge between Lula and the STF”.
