Patty Tavatanakit Posts Bogey-Free 67, Sits T2 after First Round of The Chevron Championship
Patty Tavatanakit opened The Chevron Championship with a bogey-free 67, placing her tied for second after the first round at Memorial Park in Houston. The 2021 champion carded five birdies and no bogeys to sit five-under par, sharing the early lead with other contenders.
Tavatanakit said she was focused on enjoying the moment during her opening round. “I feel like I was just out there and I was just enjoying like the moment and just really was just looking at what’s in front of me the whole time,” she stated after her round. The 26-year-old finished early in the day and acknowledged that the leaderboard could shift significantly by the end of the weekend.
Her round included a standout birdie on the 15th hole, where she sank a long putt to climb into a tie for second. Later, on the 17th hole, Tavatanakit hit what was described as the “shot of the day,” launching her ball from the rough over the water and settling it next to the pin to set up another birdie.
“Iron play was decent,” she said. “I would say, like, it’s still not where I want it to be. At the same time, like, I’m not out there to chase perfection. I feel like that is the definition of golf a little bit, is, like, you’re not going always have it your way.”
Tavatanakit, who finished tied for fifth at the JM Eagle LA Championship the week prior, emphasized her focus on process over outcome. “I don’t understand how it’s going to set me up,” she explained. “I just know that I have three more rounds ahead of me and I’m going to do my best and just grant it a good travel.”
Other notable performances in the first round included Lydia Ko, who opened with a steady 71 to sit five back, and Charley Hull, who was off the early pace. Mimi Rhodes positioned herself in early contention alongside Tavatanakit at the top of the leaderboard.
The Chevron Championship, the first major of the 2026 LPGA Tour season, continued over the weekend with Tavatanakit among the players in contention after her bogey-free start.
